By Stefan Carlin:
Last night, WWE Universal Champion, Roman Reigns set the consequences for Sunday’s Hell in A Cell match with his cousin Jey Uso.
For six years, Roman Reigns has been the top guy in WWE. He has transitioned into the “John Cena” role and continues to evolve each week, and every time he steps into the ring.
“The Big Dog” or now referred to as the “tribal chief,” returned to action on August 23rd, 2020 at SummerSlam after “the fiend” Bray Wyatt had defeated Braun Strowman for the WWE Universal Championship.
In the closing moments of the event, Reigns entered the ring and decimated both Braun and Bray to insert himself into the title picture. The following week, Reigns, now aligned with Paul Heyman, defeated Braun and Bray in a triple-threat match to regain the Universal Championship.
This is now his second reign as champion, after his first was cut short due to the re-emergence of his leukaemia.
After aligning himself with Heyman, Roman has now entered into a feud with his cousin, Jey Uso. Reigns demands to be known as the “tribal chief” and requests that his younger cousin, Jey falls in line. Both men went at it, during the Clash of Champions pay-per-view, with Reigns winning after his cousin and Jey’s older brother, Jimmy literally threw in the towel for his younger brother.
In the weeks after the Clash of Champions event, Roman Reigns told Jey that for their rematch at this Sunday’s Hell in A Cell event, there would be “tribal consequences.”
On last night’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, Roman told his cousin that that if he quit this Sunday, him, his wife and their kids would be out of the Anoa’i family, Reigns further stated that for Jimmy’s involvement, he and his family would also be out of the dynasty.
I said in a podcast a few weeks ago, that Reigns aligning himself with Paul Heyman would be nothing short of “box office,” and it’s certainly lived up to it. I’ve never been so pumped for a universal championship match, but I’ve never been so pumped for a Roman Reigns match.
This feud with his real-life cousin has been simply amazing, and one of the best feuds of the year. Sunday is set to be a hellacious showdown and I cannot wait to see the action unfold.
